Lexington Criminal Defense Attorney James Snell is a native of South Carolina. He grew up in Spartanburg and attended the Spartanburg Day School. He graduated from Limestone College with a Bachelor of Science Degree and then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law. Upon graduation and admission to the South Carolina Bar, Mr. Snell founded the Law Office of James R. Snell, Jr., LLC. The office is currently located at 316 South Lake Drive in downtown Lexington.
Since the opening of his office Mr. Snell has assisted clients in a variety of criminal law matters including drug offenses such as distribution and trafficking, violent crimes such as murder and armed robbery, cases involving children, white collar offenses including embezzlement and breach of trust and property crimes such as grand larceny and burglary. Mr. Snell has tried cases to verdict in all types of South Carolina Courts including General Sessions (felony criminal), Common Pleas (civil), Probate Court, Family Court and the Administrative Law Court. He has also argued cases on appeal before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court.
In addition to managing his law practice Mr. Snell is also a member of several professional organizations related to the practice of law in South Carolina and criminal defense. These including the American Association for Justice, the South Carolina Association for Justice and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is also a member, and past-president of the Lexington County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in all South Carolina State Courts as well as the United States Court for the District of South Carolina.
In 2011 Mr. Snell served as the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) chair for the Lexington County Bar Association. In this capacity he organized programs focusing on polygraph examinations, recent changes to South Carolina substantive criminal law, and legal ethics. In addition to organizing these programs Mr. Snell also presented at an attorney course on topics relevant to Internet and social media law as well as at a CLE sponsored by the South Carolina Bar on the topic of operating a criminal defense law practice.
In addition to represented clients at the trial level Mr. Snell represents clients in criminal appeals. A recent appellate decision (December, 2011) obtained on behalf of a client reversed a conviction. Appellate services are available for those appealing convictions in the Magistrate or Municipal Court, to the South Carolina Court of Appeals or the South Carolina Supreme Court. Additionally Mr. Snell is admitted before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court for clients allowing him to represent clients in appealing convictions from Federal Court.
Currently Mr. Snell is serving on the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee for the South Carolina Bar and is continuing to serve as the Continuing Legal Education chair for the Lexington County Bar Association.
