Lexington Traffic Ticket

Traffic Education Program

There is now a program available to those who have received a traffic citation in the Lexington County Traffic Court to have their case dismissed prior to Court. It is called the Traffic Education Program and is administered by the 11th Judicial Circuit's Pre-Trial Intervention office.

Successful completion of the program will result in the charge being dismissed without any points being assessed. Participation will requirement payment of $280 in fees, completion of a driving training course (at an additional cost) and eight hours of community service.

To be eligible the ticketed motorist must be over 17 years of age, be a first time participant and have no subsequent traffic violations within six months from being referred to the program. Additionally referrals will require the consent of the police officer responsible for the ticket. The ticket also cannot carry more than four license points.

Eligible offenses include:

Speeding
Too Fast for Conditions
Failure to Yield the Right of Way
Stop Sign Violations
Red Light Violations
Improper Lane Changes
Failing to Dim Lights
Improper Braking
Following too Closely

Offenses such as reckless driving and driving under the influence (DUI) are not eligible for participation.
