The state's property crime rate is 39.04, compared to the national median of 29.1. South Carolina has a combined crime rate of 44.76. In 2011, there were a total of 209,445 crimes that occurred in the state (which included 26,760 violent crimes and 182,685 property crimes). In South Carolina, there is a 1 in 175 chance of becoming a violent crime victim and a 1 in 26 chance of becoming a property crime victim.
