Nathan Shirk
About
Attorney Nathan Shirk brings a diverse background and a strong commitment to protecting individual rights to his work at the Law Office of James R. Snell, Jr., LLC.
Before becoming an attorney, Nathan served eight years as a Chemical Operations Specialist in the United States Army Reserve. He later attended Marist University in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and graduated summa cum laude. After returning to South Carolina, Nathan earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law.
Nathan's path to the practice of law was not a traditional one. Before law school, he worked in nuclear security at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. He also worked as a paintless dent repair technician with Dent Wizard and as a medical office administrator in Columbia.
Those experiences exposed Nathan to people from many different backgrounds and walks of life. They also helped shape one of the principles that guides his practice today: everyone deserves the opportunity to have their story told and heard.
Nathan believes strongly in individual liberty and in limiting unnecessary government interference in people's lives. That philosophy is particularly important to his work as a criminal defense attorney. When the government accuses someone of a crime and seeks to take away that person's freedom, reputation, or other rights, Nathan believes the accused deserves an advocate who will stand between the individual and the power of the State.
He takes seriously the constitutional protections afforded to every person accused of a crime and believes those protections have meaning only when lawyers are willing to insist that they be honored.
Nathan grew up in Dentsville before moving to New York and returned to South Carolina before settling in Lexington in 2015. He is happily married and the proud father of five children.
Life outside the office is rarely quiet. In addition to five children, the Shirk household includes two dogs of questionable lineage, a barn cat that apparently detests Nathan's existence, and an ornery hamster that remains incarcerated for the protection of society.
Nathan represents clients facing criminal charges and other matters handled by the Law Office of James R. Snell, Jr., LLC. To schedule a consultation with Nathan or another one of our attorneys, call 803-359-3301. Same-day appointments are typically available.
Every case is unique and must be evaluated based on its individual facts and circumstances. Prior results obtained by an attorney in one matter do not indicate that similar results can be obtained for other clients in other matters.
